Carrie Masters is head chef and owner at bird & toad. Born and raised in Detroit, Carrie spent many childhood years going to Eastern Market, learning to forage on Belle Isle and exploring Detroit's underground food scene. Now living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Carrie aims to highlight foraged foods and the biodiversity and beauty of Michigan's northwoods. Under the mentorship of chef Lane Regan of The Milkweed Inn, Carrie was able to open her pop-up concept, bird & toad. Opened in 2023, bird & toad is a love story to the UPs wild places and an intimate dining experience that hopes to combine community, connection and conversation around the table.
